Description
SURGISPON® is a sterile hemostatic absorbable gelatin sponge made from highly purified pharmaceutical grade gelatin (lyophilized hydrolyzed collagen) foam, which gives it a uniform porosity & reacts neutrally. The dried foam is cut, packaged, and sterilised using gamma radiation. SURGISPON® is immediately available for use in the operating theatre and does not require any sterilisation by dry heat or autoclaving. SURGISPON® may be used in combination with antibiotics, thrombin, and chemotherapeutics without reduction of the sponge’s haemostatic effect. Carefully read applicable instructions for use before usage.
Instructions for use:
- Soak the sponge in saline or use it dry.
- When dry, the sponge is slightly compressed. Apply the sponge to the bleeding site with gentle pressure for 1-2 minutes until bleeding is controlled.
- When wet, press firmly to remove any air bubbles, then place back in saline for storage until needed.
- Once bleeding is controlled, the cubes can remain in place.
Surgispon can be used in conjunction with antibiotics, thrombin, and chemotherapeutic agents without compromising its hemostatic effect. Be sure to read the instructions carefully before use.
Surgispon is suitable for immediate hemostasis in the following cases:
- Bone and soft tissue surgeries
- Tooth extractions
- Cyst removals
- Insertion directly into surgical cavities
